What is Bioavailability?

There are many different ways to take CBD, but which is the best? Well, the answer to that is purely subjective. However, depending on the results you are looking for, there are more effective ways of taking CBD to ensure you get the most out of the product. Knowing the bioavailability of your CBD can enhance your experience greatly.

But…what the heck is bioavailability?

Bioavailability can be similarly compared to the statistic used a lot in the wellness industry: research shows that about 64% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our body. Everything our bodies do is a process. Nothing is simple. And the same goes for CBD consumption. Whether it’s through the skin, orally, or some other way the mg. you start with, won’t be the mg. you finish with. So, it’s important to take this into account when choosing an intake method. Let’s go over the different ways of consuming CBD and check out their bioavailability. 

Oral Intake

We can ingest CBD orally through capsules, edibles, and beverages. However, as we all know the metabolic and digestive processes of consuming anything orally can really break down food or substances.  Normally we’d say that the body is doing its job, but a study taken in 2009 showed a bioavailability rate for CBD between 4% and 20% – which is low. For perspective, if you purchase a CBD product with 100mg per dosage, you can expect to actually consume roughly 10% CBD after consumption.  This is a big reason our POP 03. Sublingual Intake

Another popular way of consuming CBD is via the sublingual gland through tinctures, lozenges, and sprays.
